Often still inexperienced skilled workers ask a question: «Do I need extra paws, because I’m not too bad with the standard?» That’s just the point, that they are needed!
In our time of sewing technology there is a huge amount of hardware that can facilitate, diversify and improve the quality of work. Paws occupy a special place. This is one of the accessories and the most important element for sewing machines. They are designed to fix the fabric when sewing, and you can adjust the presser foot pressure so that the material does not slide under the needle. This allows you to get the perfect stitch. There are paws with which it is easy to grind a secret zipper, do darning or decorate products with expensive embroidery.
Paws are universal and special. Universal — suitable for sewing machines of any brand: MINERVA, TOYOTA, JANOME, BROTHER, etc. And special — they are used only for a certain brand.
You can divide them into three categories:
— for work processes (edge processing, straight stitching, sewing in a secret zipper);
— for decorative works (edging, folds, patch of applications);
— and of course work with complex fabrics (leather, velor, knitwear, etc.).
Hence it is clear that the sea is available and only one foot is used — this is absolutely not productive. Therefore, we offer you a short tour of them. This will be useful information for those who do not understand yet or simply did not know about the existence of any paws.
And of course we’ll start with the foot for sewing a zipper. Depending on which side you are handling the zipper, the foot is set to the right or left position. It allows you to press the zipper to the fabric and sew it without difficulty.
The foot with a movable stop (for a hidden stitch) allows you to make almost invisible seams. Suitable for filing classic trousers, skirts. The main thing that depends on you is to fold the fabric properly.
Foot for folding fabric. It is mainly used for processing of thin and medium fabrics. The foot gently folds the minimum amount of fabric and sews it without damaging the soft material. To do this, it is sufficient to cut the corner of the fabric from the side of the cut to be machined, place the fabric under the foot with the wrong side up and fix the corner in the notch of the foot.
Foot for edging oblique. With such a sewing accessory, you get the products of excellent quality. All you need to do is cut out the slanting 2 mm bake (you can get it ready in the fittings department). Put in the edging and that’s it. The rest she will do for you.
Foot for edge processing (overlock). It has an interesting design, in particular a plate that runs along the edge of the workpiece and prevents it from contracting, twisting, and also from shedding.
Foot for embroidery and darning. You can not do without it, either. Gives a big flight of fantasy. With it, you can embroider or patch the product. It has a wide opening, due to this you can see in which direction the line goes. A mechanism with a spring allows the material to move freely under the foot.
Upper conveyor or walking foot. It is very easy to use and you will not have any difficulties with it. Due to the double advance it facilitates working with such fabrics as: leather, velvet, satin, smooth surface materials, etc. And it is also convenient to use for quilting blankets on sinteponovoy basis, but for this you must also purchase a guide. Then you get a neat line and at an equal distance.
Foot for the skin. Due to its sliding platform made of special polymer, it does not stick to smooth and soft fabrics, does not scratch it. It is used mainly for artificial, natural leather and suede.
Foot for sewing cords. Used to decorate the product not only with cords, but also with decorative threads. And you can attach the thread to the fabric, as an ordinary stitch, and any decorative.
Foot for straight stitching or quilting. Do not tighten the fabric due to the fact that it presses almost the entire area under him, leaving room only for the needle. It is very convenient to use when the line is needed at the very edge of the product.
This is not the entire list of paws that could be used in the work. But already proceeding from this information, it is possible, many beginning seamstresses will be interested and will want to buy additional paws for the sewing machine. So do not be afraid and experiment more and simplify your work. It’s so cool to sew and decorate the thing with your own hands!
